About the USNWC




The U.S. National Whitewater Center’s mission is to build stronger communities by:
Promoting healthy and active lifestyles
Developing environmental stewardship
Encouraging family/civic interaction



Located 15 minutes from downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, the U. S. National Whitewater Center 
charts an exciting course as the world’s premier outdoor recreation and environmental learning center.  
Opened in August 2006, the 307-acre public adventure-sport facility’s most unique feature is a multiple-
channel, whitewater river for rafting and canoe/kayak enthusiasts of all abilities.  


Located on the banks 
of the Catawba River, the USNWC also includes mountain biking, running and hiking trails, a climbing 
center and challenge course, along with a 2,400 square-foot conference center and 300-seat River's 
Edge Bar & Grill. 


Directions to the USNWC:


From the North: (of Charlotte)
Take I-85 south to I-485 west and then exit at Exit 12, Moores Chapel Rd. Take a left off of the exit, which 
will take you around two traffic circles. Take a right on Rhyne Rd., and an immediate left on to Belmeade 
Dr. Follow Belmeade Dr. for about 1 mile and look for the USNWC entrance on your left.


From the South: (Gastonia)
Take I-85 north to I-485 west and then exit at Exit 12, Moores Chapel Rd. Take a left off of the exit, which 
will take you around two traffic circles. Take a right on Rhyne Rd., and an immediate left on to Belmeade 
Dr. Follow Belmeade Dr. for about 1 mile and look for the USNWC entrance on your left.



From the SouthEast: (of Charlotte)
Take I-485 west to Exit 12, Moores Chapel Rd. Take a left off of the exit, which will take you around two 
traffic circles. Take a right on Rhyne Rd., and an immediate left on to Belmeade Dr. Follow Belmeade 
Dr. for about 1 mile and look for the USNWC entrance on your left.
